Piran Symposium 1998
Sharing the Experience in Tourism
Marketing - Education and Youth - Funding Heritage
Slovenia is a central European country sharing borders with Italy,
Austria, Hungary and Croatia. Measuring 20,254 square kilometres, it is
home to 2 million people, of which 20 percent live in the capital city,
Ljubljana. Unlike the capital, Ljubljana is a small Mediterranean town,
surrounded by the town walls on one side and by the Adriatic Sea on the
other.

Due to its layout, Piran has often been compared to a ship which
- enchanted by the beautiful landscape - joined the mainland, whereas
historically Piran grew out of the salt trade. Piran is well-known for
its rich cultural heritage, and a stroll through its narrow streets and
picturesque squares - that of Tartini is the most impressive - becomes a
journey through history. Not surprisingly, Piran is a town in which
Slovenes take great pride, and our aim is to keep its beauty intact for
generations to come.
Sharing the
Experience in Tourism
Sharing the Experience in Tourism was the motto chosen for this year's
symposium. Lectures were delivered by experts from Italy, the
Netherlands, Czech Republic and Great Britain, and various workshops
were organised. Full details of the Symposium will be posted here
shortly.
