Euro heritage chief Christos Papoutsis flew in from Brussels
to deliver a keynote speech on the opportunities available
for cities like Chester to capitalise on their historic
roots, whilst at the same time forging modern dynamic
economies.
The event has
been a stunning success", said Labour Group Leader on the
City Council, Councillor John Price. "We were able to
show some very influential people what Chester and our North
Wales neighbours are capable of doing while exchanging many
useful ideas".
He added " We have a vibrant local economy underpinned by
our unique heritage. Hosting an important international
symposium further strengthens that base".
The extract was one of a number in Chester's local press
praising the event and the work of the Circle. There is no
doubt the profile of the Circle has been greatly enhanced by
the event and the future of the Circle has been significantly
strengthened. This was demonstrated by a passionate debate in
the Circle's Annual General Meeting, held as part of the five
day Symposium, in which two member cities vied with each other
to host the Symposium in the year 2001.
Next year's Symposium will be held in the Slovenian city of
Piran, in 1999 it will be held in Croatia and in the year 2000
in the founding city of Tenby
in South Wales.
